Overview of the ProgramThe Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers a Master of Arts in Sociology with specializations in Urban Social Policy, Health and the Environment, Law and Society, and Spatial Demography. The program provides students with the analytic and administrative skills to advance in leadership positions in the public, private and government sectors.
The MA specializations in Sociology are a unique blend of theoretical and methodological tools that allow students to analyze social issues, evaluate solutions, and improve the quality and justice of community life.
Our specializations encompass rigorous empirical analyses of urban, health, legal and global life. Courses are taught by an interdisciplinary faculty from Sociology, Anthropology and Public Policy. Students learn from faculty members who are outstanding scholars with practical experience. The faculty is engaged in cutting edge research that is brought into the class room to enrich and enliven the education. Students benefit from the integration of theory and the practical and empirical skills needed in 21st century organizations.
Our program prepares students for managerial and policy positions like program evaluators, researchers, program directors, and policy makers. Our program also provides a strong foundation for those seeking a Ph.D. in a wide range of disciplines in areas of social science and public policy.
