Saint Louis University

Major & Minor

The emphasis is on the following three subfields of anthropology:

  1. Cultural / Social Anthropology: study of human cultures in the present or recent past
  2. Physical / Biological Anthropology: study of humans from a biological and evolutionary perspective
  3. Archaeology:  study of the ancient and recent human past through material remains

An anthropological perspective -- including an examination of the similarities and differences between human groups, cultures and societies both locally and worldwide -- emphasizes the concepts of cultural relativism, multi-cultural perspectives, and globalization processes that are vital to many areas of study at Saint Louis University.

By participating in anthropology courses in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology, students will be further prepared to successfully function in an interconnected world. The major and minor degrees in Anthropology are designed to complement any major at the University.
