Obtaining an Email Account

Instructions to Access your SLU E-mail and Banner Self Service

To access your e-mail (via Google Apps) and Banner Self-Service, you will log in with your SLU Net ID and SLU Net password.

  • Your SLU Net ID is given to you and is your unique SLU username. It is the same as your SLU e-mail address before the @slu.edu. If you are not sure what your e-mail address is, visit slu.edu/peoplefinder and search for your name.
  • A default SLU Net password is given to you, as well. Your default SLU Net password is "Id" followed by the last six digits of your Banner ID. For example, if your Banner ID is 000123456, then your default password is Id123456. Your Banner ID was included in your offer letter and is a nine-digit number beginning with zeros.

Before logging in to your e-mail or Banner Self-Service, you must change your default password. To do so, visit SLU's password management site: password.slu.edu.

  1. Log in using your SLU Net ID and default SLU Net password.
  2. Review the requirements for a new password.
  3. Enter your default password in the Old password: box.
  4. Create a new password and enter it in the New password: and Verify password: boxes.
  5. Click Change Password.
The password management site is used to change your SLU Net ID password which will impact the following applications

    • Computer Login (Network Drives, myFiles2)
    • Google Apps (e-mail)
    • mySLU portal
    • Banner Self-Service
    • Internet Native Banner
    • Billiken Secure Connect (VPN)
    • Wireless Access (via SLU Net)
    • SLU Global

Once you change your password, you can go to mail.slu.edu to access your e-mail (Google Apps) or the tools tab in the mySLU portal to access Google Apps and Banner Self-Service. Log in to Google Apps and mySLU with your SLU Net ID and new SLU Net password.
