mySLU May 22 Upgrade
On May 22, 2013, mySLU is getting an upgrade. The portal will receive some usability improvements and an added layer of security through the use of Central Authentication Service. Here's all you need to know about the upgrade:
What is included in the upgrade?
New product, still mySLU
For the most part, mySLU will still look and feel like the mySLU portal you've used for years. ITS has designed it in a way to make for a simple transition. You'll notice the Tools tab, and all major content, is still there, right where you would expect it to be. Your links to products such as Cognos, Webfocus, Banner Self-Service, Qualtrics, and Blackboard are still there and work (largely) as they have in the past.
A couple features that are not well used in the present mySLU are not moving over:
mySLU Groups -- If you are using the Groups portion of mySLU, please plan to transition to other products such as Google Sites. You will need to backup any content presently in the groups application now that you may need to access in the future.
Bookmarks and Bookmarks Plus -- If you use these content channels in mySLU, please backup and export your bookmarks. There will not be a replacement channel in the new mySLU for these functionalities.
Custom Content Arrangement -- The new mySLU will not have the option to arrange content and/or add other content blocks. We have selected the most used and relevant blocks.
New Single Sign-On Tool (Central Authentication Service)
To improve security and the single sign-on process, a Central Authentication Service (CAS) will be implemented as part of the upgrade. This will allow you to access multiple password-protected web systems after logging in once, improving the concept of a single sign-on portal.
You will also start to log in to other systems, such as Internet Native Banner (inb.slu.edu), using CAS. More applications will be setup to utilize CAS in the coming months. When accessing these systems, you will automatically be redirected to the CAS login screen, unless you have already authenticated to CAS during your session.
What does this mean to you?
One Secure Login
To log in to mySLU, you will still go to myslu.slu.edu, but on this page, you'll click on a login link that will direct you to a new website, https://login.slu.edu, which is where you will actually enter your SLU Net ID and password. That's the CAS.
Don't be alarmed by this new site, login.slu.edu. When you log in on login.slu.edu, you'll be sent back over to mySLU and can carry on just as you would expect.
Log Out AND Close Browser
CAS is a great convenience, needing only to log in once to access all these applications. That being said, when you are done using applications that require you to log in, you must log out of the application AND close your browser to ensure you are fully logged out of all applications. Please note, while most of mySLU will be very familiar and usable, a few features will no longer be available:

You can experience the new version by visiting the test environment now at mytst.slu.edu. ITS is actively building out mySLU and looking to add content that you think would be useful. There is a link to provide feedback on the bottom of every mySLU page in the test environment.
