While the Summer Law Program in Madrid has run successfully for more than 15 years, here are testimonials from a couple of recent graduates, who share their views on their summer experience abroad.
Alex Frank ('15)
Associate, Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP
St. Louis, Missouri
Leading U.S. business law firm
"Studying law in Europe was an eye-opening experience. My time in Madrid was spent engaging in interesting debates, exploring new thoughts and tasting new foods, all while experiencing a vibrant and cosmopolitan culture. World-class professors accompanied us on a visit to the Constitutional Court in Madrid, in spending an afternoon in a large Madrid-based firm, and through a tour of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Since my studies in Madrid, I have found that it is often necessary to have an understanding of civil law systems in order to fully critique or laud our jurisprudence. Moreover, I believe that this particular portion of my legal education helped me to become a more well-rounded lawyer in my practice today.
Simply put, I could not more highly recommend studying abroad, and specifically in Spain. I wish more lawyers got to experience what I was able to through SLU LAW's Madrid Program."
Alex Frank focuses on defending corporations and manufacturers in product liability and toxic tort litigation. He also represents businesses in matters involving general negligence, employment disputes, insurance coverage, and premises liability.

Spending a summer in Madrid with SLU LAW provided me with a remarkable opportunity to immerse in Spanish culture, learn about Spain’s legal system and take a class with Judge Wolff!
SLU LAW’s Madrid summer abroad program absolutely enhanced my perspective as a lawyer, and I highly recommend taking advantage of the amazing opportunity while you’re in law school!”
