Staff Service Day

In the spirit of  "setting the world on fire," staff members at Saint Louis University are invited to take part  a service day that leads up to the University’s traditional staff celebration, Cannonball Picnic.

This year's event will be held on Monday, Oct. 22.

How to Take Part

Participation in the service day is voluntary and will also be determined based on departmental protocols and on supervisor approval. Staff members who participate will be paid as usual and will not deduct their service time from their individual leave balances.

In order to participate, departments and divisions must designate a contact person to make arrangements for the entire unit and to register their group. Individual registrations are not possible at this time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of service projects will we be doing?

That's up to each division. Divisions are encouraged to identify their own sites to serve or can request an assignment from the Center for Community Service and Engagement. The Center for Community Service and Engagement has a limited number of options for those unable to find their own service site.

Opportunities to serve on-campus will also be available at the Busch Student Center and in the multipurpose room at Doisy College of Health Sciences.

Will transportation be provided to and from the service sites?
No. Volunteers are encouraged to carpool to their service site.
Can I leave directly from the service site?

Staff and faculty are welcome to go home after they complete your service.

Will breakfast/lunch be provided?

Formal meals will not be provided. Participating units are encouraged to coordinate sack lunches, potlucks and other team-bonding time prior to their departure for the service site.

What is the schedule for the day?
Since participating divisions are responsible for arranging their own service sites, there is no one set schedule for the service day.
Will I still be paid for the day as usual?
As these groups are intact working groups, departments, or divisions, this is considered a team building experience in line with the University’s strategic plan and done on paid time for all employees.
