Admissions Procedure: Visiting Students


SLU-Madrid welcomes students who wish to enrich their university experience by spending a summer, semester or a year in the Spanish capital. If you enjoy interacting with an internationally diverse community, SLU-Madrid is the right place for you. 

We offer nearly 200 accredited courses (taught in English) to choose from in any given semester, including those that fulfill requirements for degrees in business, engineering, and the health sciences. And for students who wish to immerse themselves in Spanish culture and language, we offer courses that fulfill traditional U.S. liberal arts requirements in Spanish.

Admission to SLU-Madrid is based on a review of the following items:

    You can apply through our free online application.

    Current Saint Louis University students from the St. Louis Campus who want to study abroad in Madrid, Spain must speak with Diana Hidalgo (studyabroad-madrid@slu.edu) and apply through the SLU study abroad program portal.

    Some U.S. universities have partnership agreements with SLU-Madrid. Please check with the Study Abroad Office at your university before applying – or email the Coordinator of Visiting Groups, Katherine Smith at ksmit160@slu.edu.

    Application Deadlines:
    These deadlines are for the submission of our online application only. Admission documents can be sent in after these deadlines. For deadline extension requests, contact studyabroad-madrid@slu.edu.

  • Personal essay

    As part of the online application, you will be asked to write a 500-word essay. The topic is given on the online application. Your essay can be uploaded to the online application or sent by email to studyabroad-madrid@slu.edu.

  • Official transcripts from home university or college

    Official college transcripts can be sent by email to studyabroad-madrid@slu.edu or by regular mail to the St. Louis Campus at this address:

Application Review

The application will be considered complete when the online application and all other required and/or optional documents have been submitted. The Office of Admissions will review your completed application and will notify you about your admission by email within a week.
