Activities and Events
Staff and faculty at SLU-Madrid are committed to creating educational experiences that engage students through their involvement in community, development as leaders, and transitions to and from university. This means learning also takes place outside of the classroom—on the soccer field, during an academic trip, or while volunteering at a local soup kitchen.
Our sports director, César Rioja, is an avid advocate for exercise: to remain focused on your studies, you need to take breaks, and physical activity and sports are his ideal. Our fine and performing arts faculty feel the same; they'll invite you to sign up for a Latin Dance class or join the Concert Choir. SLU-Madrid has its own dance studio and music practice rooms, and our students perform in recitals, concerts and plays throughout the semester.
Campus Ministry hosts a wide variety of activities, including a retreat to Loyola, the birthplace of St. Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuit Order. Led, by James O'Leary, S.J., the Ignatian Community Council reaches out to students, faculty and staff of all faiths not only to discuss, but respond to tough issues of social justice the world faces today.
