Arrival Information

Welcome! We're looking forward to meeting you in Madrid.

 Booking Your Flight to Madrid.

Please enter you arrival information by filling out the Arrival form  on our Traveling to Spain webpage according to the semester when you will study with us at SLU-Madrid. This way we can ensure that your host family will be at home waiting for you on move-in day.

If you change your travel plans after you have entered your arrival information, please email Student Life (studentlife-madrid@slu.edu) with the updated information.

Review our easy-to-read Arrival Information Guide.

Review also our Antes de venir... (Before you arrive) booklet: it contains information that will prepare you for life in Madrid and at our campus.

FROM THE AIRPORT TO YOUR HOME IN MADRID

All students are responsible for making their own way to their housing assignment on Move-In Day.

We recommend taking a taxi to your destination. By law, all taxis must use a meter. From the Aldofo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, there is a fixed of €30 to anywhere in Madrid. Taxis cannot charge an extra fee for luggage. Be sure to carry on you the complete address of your destination. Ask the taxi driver for a receipt: "Necesito un recibo, por favor" before getting out of the taxi. This will allow you to have the taxi driver's license number in case you leave anything in the vehicle or you wish to file a complaint. Tipping taxi drivers is optional in Spain: if you received good service, you may wish to tip one or two euros (maximum).

While not a University-related or approved service, many of our students use MAD SHUTTLE (www.madshuttle.com) or AEROCITY (www.aerocity.com).

We do not recommend using the Metro de Madrid to and from the airport, as transporting luggage in the metro escalators is difficult.

 MONEY - GETTING STARTED

We recommend that you obtain €50 (cash) before coming to Spain to cover immediate costs, including taxi fare and other incidentals. We also recommend that you bring more than one bank card, preferably Visa or Mastercard, in case you experience a problem with your credit card. AMEX is not accepted in many places.

You may also need to activate your debit/credit cards before you leave for Spain in order to be able to withdraw cash from ATMs at the airport or elsewhere in Madrid.

 UNIVERSITY HOUSING

If you have arranged with the University to live with a host family:

  • Move-In Day for Fall 2016 begins at 8 am on August 30, 2016
  • Move-In Day for Spring 2017 begins at 8 am on January 8, 2017

Housing placement is currently underway. If by the week before your official Move-In Day you have not received the contact information for your University-arranged housing assignment, please contact Ms. Margarita Casado at housing-madrid@slu.edu.

All students are responsible for making their own way to their housing assignment on Move-In Day. Students may not move into University housing prior to 8:00 a.m. on Move-in Day. Those who arrive early are fully responsible for their own accommodations. You may find a list of area hotels and hostels by clicking here.
