Faculty News: Dr. Tedesco on Contextualizing Nationalism
Dr. Laura Tedesco (Political Science, Dean of Arts & Sciences) published the article, "Nationalism, or how to drown out what is important," in Open Democracy, the world's most widely circulated digital media platform for the exchange of political ideas and analyses. The article responds to the highly publicized independence movement of Catalonia, the autonomous region in northeastern Spain. Tedesco contextualizes the movement through a reflection on the difference between First World and Third World countries in terms of humanitarian struggles. Dr. Tedesco warns us "to be cautions when we talk about victims and political prisoners in First World countries."
