Running for a Cause: SLU-Madrid's 5K Fundraiser
Dozens of runners, walkers, and sideline supporters came together for the semiannual SLU-Madrid run for a cause, organized by Sports Director, César Rioja. This semester's event raised nearly 400 € in support of Cottolengo del Padre Alegre, a faith-based initiative to create an inclusive community and provide medical and residential services to economically disadvantaged adults with disabilities. Students, faculty, staff, families and dogs completed the 5K course around the Parque del Retiro. Director of Marketing Ángel García even brought along his Kangoo fitness team, who bounded through course wearing futuristic jumping shoes.
"The race was a great way to spend a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning," said Career Services Coordinator Patrice Burns. "We came together as a community, enjoyed the weather, got some exercise and raised our consciousness of a worthy cause."
Event organizer César Rioja extends his heartfelt thanks to the 100+ people who contributed to the success of the fundraiser, offering donations, participating in the race and staying for the picnic afterwards!
