SLU-Madrid's English-Spanish Language Camp
OPI (Operación Inglés), SLU-Madrid's summer language camp for students between the ages of 12 and 17 kicks off in July. Founded in 2003, the camp fosters learning (and having fun) based on language exchange between native Spanish and English speakers.
The camp, held in the quaint village of Villafranca de los Barros (Badajoz) at Colegio San José, runs from July 2 until July 21.
At OPI, native English speakers are immersed in Spanish culture, while Spanish speakers practice their English from dawn to dusk. In the mornings, students attend interactive language classes with a cultural focus. The language teachers and camp monitors are SLU-Madrid students, supervised by faculty. Afternoon workshops range from photography, theater and cooking to canoeing, swimming and archery. Much of the spontaneous language exchange occurs during the workshops. In the evenings, students watch movies, play cards, or attend the group activities organized by the monitors.
