Department of Political Science - International Relations

"In these turbulent and uncertain times, it is more important than ever that we prepare young people to be able to understand international challenges and help protect tolerance, human rights, diversity and peace. I am very proud to say that this is what we do in our Department."

Laura Tedesco, Ph.D.
Program Director

is proud to offer a four-year political science degree with a concentration in international relations. This innovative and rigorous liberal arts program, in the European Union and in the heart of Spain, provides you with an interdisciplinary course of study designed to enhance your knowledge and understanding of global affairs.

The B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations at SLU-Madrid fosters in its graduates a theoretical and empirical understanding of complex international processes that are increasingly important to all nations. The goal is to form leaders who understand the world today and have the tools to analyze key developments in global politics critically.

We will help you to answer questions such as:

  • Is the dominance of the West increasingly under challenge?
  • Are we living in a "post-democratic"  world?
  • What are the causes and effects of the ongoing post-2008 economic and global financial crisis?

How do we teach?

Not only does our political science and international relations degree teach through traditional lectures and seminars; you will also learn from guest speakers, simulation games, case studies, students' presentations with questions and answers and videos.

Why SLU-Madrid?

"The dream to work on behalf of universal human rights and IR came to life thanks to my time with the Political Science Department at SLU-Madrid. Without the international perspectives I gained from the courses, professors and diverse learning environment, I would not be on the path that I am today. The Political Science Department at SLU-Madrid inspires."
