Emergency Department Ambassador Program

Who are the Ambassadors?

An emergency room ambassador volunteer at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital works primarily with the families and visitors of patients who are currently being seen or triaged. As families come into the Emergency Department, they will greet them and introduce themselves as an ED ambassador. Their primary role is to act as an intermediary between the emergency department staff and the family so that the family can stay informed. Additionally, they can help fill out paperwork and answer most of our patients and family's questions.

What volunteers can expect to get out of this experience:

  • First-hand experience working in an emergency department
  • Experience communicating with families and patients as well as the emergency department staff
  • Service to the community
  • Valuable lessons about customer service
