Overview: The music program offers a B.A. in Music. Graduates are prepared to enter graduate programs in music and have also gone into the job market in areas of music management, arts education and church music.
Curriculum: The curriculum gives students a background in theory, history and performance. Music majors choose an option in either performance or Music Studies. All participate in University vocal or instrumental groups. All ensembles are open to the entire SLU community, regardless of major.
Faculty: The music faculty remain active performers and researchers. Dr. Pamela Youngdahl-Dees specializes in piano, music of women composers and vocal coaching. Dr. Jeral Becker is the director of vocal activities and conducting. Dr. Robert Hughes focuses on music history and instrumental performance.
Internships: In the past, students found positions as counselors at summer music camps, interned at musical theatre companies, taught lessons or performed locally.

Performance Opportunities: The Mastersingers is the select vocal ensemble at Saint Louis University and enjoys a reputation as an outstanding group specializing in the singing of madrigals. The University Concert Choir provides another opportunity to perform. The Saint Louis University Jazz Ensemble provides students with an opportunity for jazz performance in both big band repertoire and in combo settings. Students may also participate in string and guitar ensembles.
Additional performance opportunities include the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, Union Avenue Opera, Winter Opera Saint Louis and American Kantorei.
