Meet Sr. Virginia: Office of Mission and Identity Adds Director of Spiritual Formation
Sr. Virginia Herbers, ASCJ has joined the Office of Mission and Identity Office as the new director of spiritual formation.
Herbers just started at Saint Louis University at the beginning of the month, but her SLU connection is strong. Three generations of her family have attended Saint Louis University.
“I consider myself the fourth generation at SLU,” she said.
Herbers is coming off more than 10 years working for the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in various roles in Connecticut and St. Louis. She served as both formation and vocation director before serving as vice-provincial. Before that, she spent 16 years at Cor Jesu Academy, where she taught theology and worked as a campus minister.
She said the new role at SLU seemed like the perfect combination of the right role and the right time, allowing her to come home to St. Louis.
“What excites me the most is the chance to connect with people,” she said. “I really want to see what the faculty and staff want to see from Mission and Identity and help expand the reach of the office.”
Herbers is currently leading the South Campus Spiritual Exercises and is seeking input from the SLU community on other areas where she can serve. To contact Sr. Virginia, email or call her office at 314-977-5208.
Saint Louis University’s Office of Mission and Identity ensures that the principles and traditions of Catholic, Jesuit higher education, and the mission and core values of SLU are integrated into operations, structures, programs and practices, and the formation of its students, faculty, staff, administration and board members.
