Class of 2022: Student Profiles

Students from Saint Louis University's class 2022 share highlights from their time at SLU. Find out what they plan to do after graduation and how their SLU experience prepared them for what's next.

With hundreds of academic programs to choose from and countless ways to get involved on campus, each student's Saint Louis University experience is unique. As the University celebrates the accomplishments of the class of 2022, we asked graduates about their future plans and the lasting impact of being a Billiken. 

Meet the Graduates

Justice Hill, B.A., American Studies, B.A., Political Science

Justice Hill

Hometown: Columbia, South Carolina 

Justice was selected as the student speaker for the May 2022 Commencement. He is the president of SLU’s African American Male Scholars Initiative and a residential advisor in the Diversity and Global Citizenship Learning Community. Justice also has served in the Student Government Association, written for One World Social Justice Magazine and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar and was inducted into the National Residence Hall Honorary.

Career Preparation Highlights: "During my time at SLU, I have interned at the University of Alabama School of Law with their Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholars, served as the program coordinator for the Columbia Urban League’s Summer Science Technology Enrichment Program, interned at the Burr and Forman Law Firm, and interned with the Wells Fargo Wealth and Investment Management Program."

What's Next: "I will be attending Duke University to attain my master’s in divinity. "

"The world is waiting on us to make our mark ... the next generation of leaders that will have an indelible impact in the world."


Alexa Santamarina, B.S., Nursing

Alexa Santamarina

Hometown: Loveland, Ohio

Career Preparation Highlights: "I had a summer nursing externship in 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. I worked on the night shift with a preceptor 36 hours a week and took an eight-hour class weekly, too. I worked in an acute medicine/surgery unit. I highly recommend any nursing student looking for a summer job to apply."

What's Next: "After graduating, I will be going back home to Cincinnati. I will be working at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center on an acute medicine unit. This is where I have received care all my life and is like a second home to me. So, this is a very big full-circle moment for me." 

“My time at SLU has prepared me for what is next because it has provided me with an environment that has cultivated me into a confident and independent woman. My nursing professors have talked to me about prioritizing my self-care in order to protect myself from burnout and be able to provide the best holistic care. SLU has developed me into a servant leader. It has helped me to want to empower others to find their voices and begin to be the leaders they were meant to be, too.”


Elizabeth Potterf, B.A., Communication, B.A., Political Science

Elizabeth Potterf

Hometown: Kansas City, Missouri 

Career Preparation Highlights: "I had an internship with the ACLU of Missouri as a complaint counselor and member of the special projects team. I was also an undergraduate legal intern at the Missouri State Public Defender's office in St. Charles."

What's Next: "I will be attending Washington University in St. Louis School of Law to pursue a J.D."

“SLU has shaped me into a better student, leader and individual. My time at SLU helped me discover my passion for the law and prepared me for my next step of attending law school. I have had the privilege of having incredible professors who were invested in my education and pushed me to be the best student that I could be. I believe that my education and involvement have also given me the necessary skills to be a successful leader and communicator in the future. ”


Lana Downard, B.S., Occupational Science

Lana Downard

Hometown: Belleville, Illinois

What's Next: "Continuing at SLU for one year to get my M.S. in occupational therapy."

“SLU has prepared me very well to go into the world and be the best person I can be. It has helped me grow as a person and expand my knowledge of the world around me. From the teachers I have had to the organizations I have been a part of, I have encountered many amazing people and was challenged to work through problems with others who had different viewpoints from my own.”


Jonathan (Jack) Krone, B.A., Political Science, B.A., Economics

Jack Krone

Hometown: St. Charles, Missouri

Career Preparation Highlights: "I have had two internships while at SLU. Last summer was with the Cato Institute, a think tank, where I worked on issues regarding international trade. This summer I will be interning with the Niskanen Center, another think tank, where I will be working on issues related to regulation."

What's Next: "I will be headed to Georgetown University to earn a dual J.D./Master of Public Policy."

“My time in economics and political science has helped prepare me to analyze policy and pushed me to think critically about the systems that surround us. Because of my time at Saint Louis University, I have made a group of lifelong friends and have been prepared to succeed in my post-graduate education and beyond.”


Shalmali Mirajkar, B.S., Neuroscience, B.S., Mathematics

Shalmali Mirajkar

Hometown: St. Louis

Career Preparation Highlights: "I interned at Easterseals Midwest to help autistic children improve social skills; I co-taught a 14-week class. SLU also provided me with opportunities to gain clinical experience at SSM SLU Hospital and the Health Resource Center."

What's Next: Medical School at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha

“Because of my time at Saint Louis University, I have developed an interdisciplinary and community service-driven outlook.”


Victoria (Tori) Parish, B.S., Forensic Science

Tori Parish

Hometown: Mendham, New Jersey

Career Preparation Highlights: "I completed a virtual internship with United Data Connect as an investigative genetic genealogy intern. For that internship I looked at DNA profiles obtained from evidence in cold cases and tried to map them and compare them to profiles that were publicly available."

What's Next: "Starting work at MilliporeSigma in St. Louis as an associate scientist in quality control."

“I am so excited to graduate and put all of the information I’ve spent the last four years gaining to use in the professional world. SLU gave me the opportunity to grow and helped me thrive, and I can’t wait to see what my future holds.”


Aubrey Zahuranec, B.S., Health Management

Aubrey Zahuranec

Hometown: Cleveland

Career Preparation Highlights: "I have an internship with Kindred Healthcare working with the HR team. I assist with the apprenticeship programs, helping communicate with many of the directors and apprentices, design newsletters and social media posts, and support the team with projects. This summer I will be working with the Cleveland Clinic as an administrative graduate intern in the Community Care (4C) department. I will be supporting a new project involving the rollout of a maternal and infant dual-care program." 

What's Next: "I am currently in SLU's accelerated B.S. in Health Management/Master of Health Administration program at SLU. Next year I will already be in my second year of graduate school finishing up my  master's!"

“The people I have met and experiences I had at SLU have guided me to grow into the person I am today. Without SLU, I would have never been able to advance my career so quickly or take on projects that relate to my interests and major.”


Jeremy Palacio, B.S., Forensic Science

Jeremy Palacio

Hometown: Sugar Land, Texas

Career Preparation Highlights: "I completed a virtual internship with United Data Connect in forensic genealogy. As part of my responsibilities, I helped create and revise a training manual to educate various law enforcement agencies on the most up-to-date techniques for analyzing DNA profiles in cold cases."

What's Next: "This fall, I will be attending the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where I will prepare myself to become a practicing medical physician in the future!"

“My time at SLU has prepared me not only for the rigors of medical school but also for any other challenges I may encounter in the future. The support systems I have found among friends and faculty have given me a plethora of opportunities to strengthen my confidence and to grow as a person. ”


Kalynn Clearwater, B.S., Exercise Science

Kalynn Clearwater

Hometown: Springfield, Illinois

Career Preparation Highlights: SLU's physical therapy program is direct-entry, ensuring a smooth transition from the undergraduate phase of the program to the graduate phase. Experience as the physical therapy clinic lead at  SLU's Health Resource Center provided opportunities to work with patients. 

What's Next: "Continuing my education at SLU to get my Doctorate of Physical Therapy."

“Because of my time at Saint Louis University, I know how to care and treat patients as a whole, not just their impairment.”


Komal Patel, M.H.A, Health Administration 

Komal Patel

Hometown: St. Charles, Missouri

Career Preparation Highlights: "I interned as an graduate administrative intern at UCHealth Northern Region in Fort Collins/Loveland, Colorado, from May to August 2021. During my internship, I worked on a variety of projects within the two hospitals, shadowed service line leaders to understand their job roles and responsibilities, learned key leadership skills, and received Lean Six Sigma and project management training."

What's Next: A new role as an application and program analyst at Deloitte, Chicago

“The experiences I have gathered from my classes and internship in the past two years have prepared me to effectively work in teams, enhance my communication and leadership skills, and manage my time efficiently. ”


Wanxiang Liu, M.S., Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

Wanxiang Liu

Hometown: Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China

Career Preparation Highlights: "At SLU, I learned many skills and techniques in my research area."

What's Next: Ph.D. program at Arizona State University 

“Because of my time at Saint Louis University, I’ve got a good pathway to learn the science knowledge and techniques in the bioinformatics field. So, I can be a more excellent scientist in the future!”


Hannah Chauvin, M.S., Biomedical Engineering 

Hannah Chauvin

Hometown: St. Louis

Career Preparation Highlights: "I held an internship position at Idéa Groupe (Montoir de Bretagne, France) when I studied abroad in the summer of 2019. The company specializes in logistics and supply chain management within France, though I focused on air and sea travel vessels."

What's Next: Working full-time as a GOglobal trainee in group procurement for Merck Group, involving a two-year rotational program between MilliporeSigma in St. Louis and Merck’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. 

“Throughout my time at SLU, I have grown in independence, confidence and knowledge, both in and outside of the classroom.”


Celebrate SLU's Class of 2022

Commencement ceremonies for May 2022 graduates take place May 13-21. Ceremonies will also stream live on slu.edu, on Saint Louis University's YouTube channel and on the Facebook page of each individual school or college.
