Saint Louis University’s Parks College to Host Virtual Engineering Summer Camps
More than 60 high school-aged students from across the country will participate in virtual camp weeks that explore an array of engineering careers and the collegiate engineering programs offered at SLU’s Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology.
Over the next several weeks, Parks College will be hosting two virtual summer camps for high school students. From June 28 - July 2, the college’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs will run the Virtual Robotics Summer Academy. This will be the second year the camp is offered virtually, with 27 students registered to attend. Robotics campers have been shipped robot kits, installed necessary software on their individual computers, and will log in next week to learn to design, build and program a robot from the comfort of home. At the conclusion of the camp week, each camper will have their own working robot.
From July 12 - 16, more than 35 high school-aged students from across the country will join Parks College for the Virtual Engineering Exploration Experience. The program will serve as an introductory look at the various disciplines and careers available in engineering. For four hours each day, more than 35 campers will log in simultaneously for live guest speakers, virtual field trips, academic modules with Saint Louis University faculty, and small group activities. At the conclusion of the camp, groups of campers will present about some of the interesting engineering careers they learned about during the week in a closing ceremony.
Several current SLU engineering students will serve as camp counselors, engaging with the campers and guiding discussions throughout the week. Both of these summer camps are made possible by generous sponsors who have funded 17 campers’ tuition scholarships:
- The Boeing Company (Platinum Level Sponsor)
- Alberici Constructors (Gold Level Sponsor)
- Nooter/Eriksen (Gold Level Sponsor)
These camps continue a year’s worth of virtual outreach programming that Parks College produced during the 2020-2021 school year and summer. Parks College also hosted a Virtual Aviation Exploration Experience camp week June 14-18. Nearly 100 high school students from across the US are participating in Parks College’s virtual summer programs this year.
