Andrew Wilmes, M.H.A. 2015

Andrew Wilmes, M.H.A. is making an impact in health administration. An alumnus of the 2015 M.H.A. class, Wilmes is the Manager of Accreditation for Hospital Sisters Health System. In this Q&A, he discusses his career, why he chose SLU for his master of health administration, and the future of health administration.

Why did you pursue a degree from SLU?

I chose to pursue an MHA degree from SLU because I knew the degree would open the doors to any healthcare organization and allow me to reach the highest level of professionalism in the field.

Which course(s) were most beneficial to your career goals? 

Dr. Howard's HMP 500 Course--it provides a great foundation for the business realm of the healthcare industry.

Blessed are the flexible, for they can never be bent out of shape.

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

I would have to say the things I have enjoyed the most about my career would be the difference I have felt I have made in the lives of others, the challenges my career has brought to me that have allowed me to grow both personally and professionally, and the people I have had the opportunity to interact with from fellow colleagues to patients.

What do you think will be a crucial topic or issue
regarding healthcare over the next ten years?

Whether healthcare will become a governmental run right or continue to be considered a commodity.
