Mohammad Agha, M.D., M.H.A., is making an impact in health administration. An alum of the 2017 M.H.A. class, Dr. Agha is the Assistant Professor of Clinical Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation for University of Missouri Healthcare. In this Q&A, he discusses his career, why he chose SLU for his executive master of health administration degree, and the future of health administration.

Why did you pursue a degree from SLU?

To understand the entire healthcare landscape and pursue a career in healthcare administration.

Which courses were most beneficial to your career goals?

As a physician I didn’t have much education in the financial side of healthcare so all the financial classes were fantastic for me (though I learned a ton in each class). 

Maintain as much flexibility as possible through acquiring new skills so you can maximize what you bring to the table.

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

Learning about the different facets of the healthcare landscape and meeting people working In these different sectors.

What do you think will be a crucial topic or issue regarding healthcare over the next ten years?

Restoring the physician-patient relationship while simultaneously navigating increased patient-centered care over the traditional paternalistic physician driven care model

If you had a motto or words to live by, as they relate to the evolving field of healthcare, what would it be?

On a personal level I would say being of value to others and utilizing my talents to provide service to others. From an overall healthcare perspective I would say maintain as much flexibility as possible through acquiring new skills so you can maximize what you bring to the table-with the way healthcare is changing some skills will be more or less useful so it’s good to bring value from multiple skillsets.
