Saint Louis University’s Innovation Mentoring Teams provide free help to entrepreneurs, connecting people and resources to foster business growth in the St. Louis region.
Based on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Venture Mentoring Service, the program provides local entrepreneurs at least two mentors for each mentee company. A pool of more than 60 volunteer mentors includes expertise across multiple fields and industries. The multiple perspectives strengthen new ventures and accelerate growth.
Innovation mentoring teams gained experience through the Gateway Venture Mentoring Service before SLU assumed its operations. Founded in 2007, Gateway met with more than 800 entrepreneurs and mentored more than 150 ventures, about half founded by women or minorities.
How Mentoring Teams Work
Innovation Mentoring Teams work in coordination with the SLUStart I-Corps program, and interested parties should apply through SLUStart. Our mentors listen and provide honest feedback from people that have been down the road you’re traveling, the best gift an entrepreneur can receive. Beyond your core mentors, we also offer specialized mentors in the legal, accounting, banking, and marketing fields. We may also refer you to other local support organizations better suited to your immediate needs.
