Scholarships are one of the most sought after types of aid because students do not have to pay these funds back!
Scholarships are awarded to students who qualify based upon academics, service, extra-curricular involvement, or extraordinary talent. These funds may also be awarded from outside sources such as schools, employers, organizations, corporations, foundations and more. Scholarships are awarded at the beginning of a student's first term and will automatically be renewed each year provided the student maintains the required GPA and does not exhaust the maximum number of terms offered.
Financial awards recognizing outstanding student achievement are generously supported by donors to Saint Louis University. The Office of Development provides opportunities for select students to interact with these donors in various stewardship activities. Outstanding students chosen to participate in these activities will be notified by the Office of Development at a future date.
Four-year merit-based scholarships, ranging from $3,000 to $18,000 per year, are available to incoming freshmen. The Billiken, Ignatian, University, Dean's and Vice President's Scholarships do not require a separate scholarship application - the Application for Freshman Admission automatically qualifies applicants for consideration. Once a student is offered a merit-based scholarship, it is theirs to keep should they enroll at SLU. The award is automatically renewed based upon full-time enrollment over 8 consecutive semesters and maintenance of the required GPA referenced below:
Billiken Catholic 2.0
Vice President (Provost) 3.2
Additionally, SLU also offers two merit-based scholarships for first-time freshmen that require separate applications: the Presidential Scholarship and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship. If a student is awarded the Presidential or Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and enrolls at SLU, they are required to maintain the following GPAs to retain their scholarship:
Martin Luther King 3.0
Jesuit High School Award
All first year applicants who graduate from a Jesuit High School will automatically receive Saint Louis University's Jesuit High School Award, valued at $3,000 per year. Recipients of the Jesuit High School Award are recognized for their continued commitment to Jesuit education. This award is automatically renewed based upon enrollment over 8 consecutive semesters and maintenance of a 2.0 GPA. Students should postmark a completed application before December 1 to guarantee consideration. The Jesuit High School Award can be combined with a merit scholarship up to -- but not exceeding -- the full cost of tuition.
SLU full-time undergraduate siblings are each eligible for a $3,000 award upon completion and acceptance of a Family Award Application. Any additional siblings also are eligible for the award, which will be added to any other scholarships or grants a student may be awarded. Students receiving full tuition scholarships (Presidential, Tuition Remission, FACHEX, Tuition Exchange) are not eligible for the family award. Family Awards are renewable as long as multiple siblings remain full-time undergraduate students. Families are required to complete the Family Award Application annually, and each student receiving the Family Award must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. You may find the Family Award Application here.
Saint Louis University National Merit Award
Saint Louis University collaborates with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) to fund a limited number of entering, first-time freshman scholars each year.
A student's scholarship could be funded by one of three parties: (1) National Merit Scholarship Corporation, (2) an outside corporation or (3) Saint Louis University. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will determine how each student's scholarship is funded. If the scholarship is funded by Saint Louis University, the student will receive $2,000 in additional aid from Saint Louis University. In order to apply for this award, students must list Saint Louis University as his/her first choice on the NMSC application and be admitted to Saint Louis University. The Saint Louis University National Merit Scholarship Award is highly competitive.
