Introduction to Mobile App Development for Android

Syntax - Coding - Visual Development

Program Information

This camp uses MIT App Inventor to engage students rapidly and build the student's first app quickly. This visual development programming and app creation environment transforms the complex language of text-based coding into visual, drag-and-drop building blocks. The simple graphical interface grants even an inexperienced novice the ability to create a basic, fully functional app within an hour or less. We combine this rapid learning with basic introductory coding skills and a parallel introduction to the mobile app environment for Android devices. The goal is to focus on how mobile apps are structured, with a secondary introduction to syntax and coding. Students will understand basic computer operations, how memory and variables are managed, the edit-compile-load-test development cycle of a program and of course how to get the programs to function on an Android based device.
