Introduction to Programming with Java

Advanced Computer Programming - Java - Object-oriented Techniques - App and Game Design

Program Information

Critical thinking, problem-solving, and disciplined creativity will all be challenged and engaged in this introduction to algorithms, coding and programming in Java for middle school students.

This camp will introduce students to Java, the world's most popular and important programming language. Using the object oriented structures of Java, students will learn to install the IBM Eclipse IDE development environment, the Java JDK from Oracle, and then design and compile programs, learn the basic constructs of programming structures and objects, and practice their new knowledge on fun projects (e.g., basic visual display, logic, decisions and loops, calculations, memory concepts, etc.).

This is a great camp not only as an in-depth primer to coding, programming and Java specifically, but also - perhaps even more so - to understanding how computers function, logic development and enhancing a disciplined creativity within your child. Java is the official language of the AP Computer Science A Exam, and your daughter or son will leap ahead with the highly extensible skills and knowledge presented in this immersive camp experience

No prior programming experience required - basic keyboarding ability and nothing more. Students MUST bring their own PC/Mac laptops with permission to install software.Grades 6-8
