Saint Louis University's undergraduate degree in German goes beyond the instruction of language to immerse you in the history, politics, society and culture of the German-speaking world.
If you choose to major in German studies at SLU, you'll have opportunities for summer, semester and year-long study abroad programs that count toward your degree. Many students choose to visit the University of Heidelberg and its U.S. counterpart, Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, or the University of Stuttgart. (Learn about studying abroad at SLU.)
You'll also have access to Saint Louis University's Language Resource Center
and the Saint Louis University Center for Global Citizenship
. German studies students at SLU also enjoy an International Film Series each semester.
What You'll Learn in SLU's German Studies Degree Program
German studies students at SLU become proficient in oral and written German, and become knowledgeable about German culture and history. You'll round out your degree with classes in German film, literature and poetry.
SLU's German studies program also offers small class sizes of four to eight students in upper-division courses, giving you direct access to faculty whose expertise includes German language and literature, Medieval literature, manuscript studies and German expressionism, culture of the Weimar Republic, and performing and visual arts from the 20th and 21st centuries.
