CHCE Partnerships Ensure Continued Availability of Valuable Resource
Health Care Ethics USA (HCEUSA) is a quarterly ethics newsletter founded by Fr. Kevin O'Rourke, OP and published through the Center for Health Care Ethics at Saint Louis University from 1993 to 2006. It was established to engage the ethical issues faced in particular by Catholic health care institutions and providers.
In January 2007, publishing HCEUSA became a joint venture between the Center for Health Care Ethics and the Catholic Health Association. Dr. Ronald Hamel, Senior Director of Ethics at Catholic Health Association, assumed the role of editor, with Dr. James DuBois from the Center for Health Care Ethics serving as associate editor. At that time HCEUSA became a free benefit to members of CHA; nonmembers can access issues with a subscription fee.
New features of HCEUSA include: quarterly publication, sample policies with commentaries, book reviews, and notes on health care ethics in the news. DuBois says that "this new partnership has not only greatly increased distribution, but has made the publication even more useful to individuals working in health care."
Archives of all issues published between 2000 and 2006 are maintained on the Center’s website here; newer issues are hosted on the Catholic Health Association’s website and are available at http://www.chausa.org/Pub/MainNav/News/HCEthics/.
