Job Search Links

To the Saint Louis University Student Community:
The Career Services office would like to make all students aware of the increase in "scam" employment opportunities. Nationally career centers, have reported an increase in the amount of fraudulent postings submitted through a variety of on-line venues.

As job seekers, please be cautious of positions that require you to provide your personal money up front for a "start up" business; positions that provide you payment before any service has been rendered; and especially those that ask you to deposit a check in your bank account, and "wire" money to an unknown individual. In the link below, the Federal Trade Commission has created a short video to assist in identifying potential scams:

Please know that our office is doing everything possible to try and ensure that these postings do not get submitted through our on-line job database, Handshake. If you have not visited Handshake and you are searching for on-campus positions, internships, and/or full-time employment, you can access Handshake at

If you are ever suspicious about a position located in Handshake, or any website, feel free to contact the Career Services office and speak with a staff member to help assist you with this matter.

If you are already involved in a scam:

  1. Contact the local police immediately. The police are responsible for conducting an investigation (regardless of whether the scam artist is local or in another state)
  2. If it is a situation where the you have sent money to a fraudulent employer: contact your bank or credit card company immediately to close the account and dispute the charges
  3. If the incident occurred completely over the Internet, file an incident report with the:, or by calling the FTC at: 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).
