SLU's First Lay President Inaugurated
Saint Louis University officially inaugurated Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., as the University's 33rd president during an Oct. 3 ceremony in Chaifetz Arena. SLU's first inauguration since 1987, the event began with a procession at 9 a.m., followed by the formal ceremony, which included delegates from more than 50 colleges and universities around the country.
Students, faculty, alumni and representatives from the Jesuit community offered welcomes, prior to the missioning and investiture. President Pestello then addressed the crowd.
"Our forefathers’ journey has never been easy, but the results have always been profound," he said. "Our next step forward begins today."
In addition to the inauguration ceremony, SLU celebrated an all-school Mass Oct. 2, in St. Francis Xavier College Church. Both events were followed by receptions.
Further coverage of the inauguration will be available from this site.
