The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) serves as the governing board of any minority affiliated Greek letter organization, including, but not limited to, the fraternities and sororities that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). Alpha Iota Omicron Fraternity, Inc., a historically South Asian fraternity is also part of the MGC. Each year, the MGC hosts MGC Week, as well as other signature programs.
The NPHC consists of the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities.
These nine are often referred to as “The Divine Nine.” In Saint Louis, all NPHC chapters,
with the exception of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., function as citywide chapters.
Citywide chapters are identified as a collegiate chapter of two or more participating
colleges and/or universities. The Multicultural Greek Council serves as a liaison
between the citywide chapters and the Saint Louis University community. Alpha Iota
Omicron is an institution based chapter with membership only at Saint Louis University.
Students interested in joining MGC organizations can join through a process known
as membership intake. The intake process for each chapter is defined by their international/national
organization, and dates are set by the individual organization. Prior to the membership
process, organizations host a rush or an informational, where students have the opportunity
to express interest in a specific organization. After receiving an invitation for
membership, students may begin the membership process.
Interested students are encouraged to regularly attend events hosted by the organization of interest to be aware of opportunities for membership.
