USA Today named Saint Louis University Museum of Art (SLUMA) as one of 10 university museums in the country worth exploring.

The article notes that SLUMA is home to an “impressive permanent collection with a focus on modern and contemporary art, Asian decorative arts and artifacts from the Western Jesuit Missions.”

Other university museums highlighted include UCLA’s Hammer Museum, Yale University Art Gallery, Princeton University Art Museum and the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University.

SLUMA has ranked repeatedly on College Values Online’s “Most Impressive” college or university museums nationwide. The site currently ranks SLUMA as the best university museum in the State of Missouri.

College Values Online wrote of SLUMA that “perhaps it’s not so surprising that one of the country’s most preeminent Roman Catholic colleges boasts one of the most impressive collections of religious art,” referring to the Western Jesuit Missions collection.

The museum has also been lauded in recent years by Best College Reviews.

SLU’s Department of Museums and galleries includes SLUMA, The Samuel Cupples House Museum, McNamee Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art (MOCRA).
