Are you looking for the college experience before you graduate high school? Saint Louis University's Visiting Young Scholars program offers that opportunity to current high school students looking to challenge themselves.
Visiting Young Scholars are current high school students chosen to take regular lower-level Saint Louis University classes on SLU’s campus. This dual-enrollment program, offered through the 1818 Advanced College Credit program, bridges the gap between courses in high schools and college courses. Determining if the courses count toward high school graduation is at the discretion of the high school administration.
The benefits of becoming a Visiting Young Scholar go beyond just college credit. You will also have the opportunity to receive:
The Visiting Young Scholars program is an exceptional opportunity for exceptional students. You’re eligible to apply if you:
The Visiting Young Scholars program follows the same academic deadlines as full-time undergraduate SLU students.
Visiting Young Scholars, once accepted to the program, are expected to complete online orientation and responsible for the content in the Visiting Young Scholars Handbook.
You should apply to the Visiting Young Scholars program the semester before you want to take courses.
You can take up to 11 credit hours per semester. While AP credit may satisfy a university's full-time student prerequisite of a course, SLU’s Visiting Young Scholars program does not acknowledge AP credit as satisfactorily meeting a course prerequisite.
If you’ve already completed a semester in the Visiting Young Scholars program and are in good standing, you do not need to re-submit application materials.
As a Visiting Young Scholar, you can enroll in courses for which you have met SLU prerequisites on a space-available basis at a reduced tuition rate.
The tuition rate is $350 per credit hour. Visiting Young Scholars pay the same lab fees as full-time matriculating students.
There are three ways to pay your bills. If you don't pay your tuition in full on time, you will be dropped from your class and have to pay a $50 reinstatement fee.
