At SLU 101 summer orientation you’ll meet future classmates and friends, walk the West Pine Mall, sleep in a residence hall and set your schedule for fall classes. Essentially, you’ll be a Billiken.
Discovering You at SLU
SLU 101 Summer Orientation is your first opportunity to live life as a college student. It’s a two-day, overnight campus visit that provides an honest look at life at SLU and sets you up for success from the start.
We’ve packed the experience with all the information you’ll need to prepare for your return in the fall. As such, we expect all incoming students to attend. Specifically, through SLU 101 Summer Orientation you’ll:
- Learn about academic expectations and available support services at SLU
- Explore ways to get involved with campus organizations and activities
- Work with advisers to map out a fall class schedule
- Meet new friends
You’ll feel welcome among your fellow freshmen. You’ll get excited about what lies ahead. And most importantly, you’ll kick off your life at SLU with confidence.

What to Expect
SLU 101 starts with a welcome session. There you will meet our SLU 101 leaders — upperclassmen who will be your guides during summer orientation at SLU. You will meet with an academic adviser, hear about about student life and what to expect from college, and make friends during evening events planned by SLU 101 leaders.
The rest of your schedule will be tailored to you, but the entire time is filled with opportunities to meet new friends.
One day you might hear from faculty about our academic expectations and learn how we keep SLU’s campus safe. The second day might continue with discussions about how to get involved, as well as student panels and campus tours. Your family members, if they choose to join you, can also learn about how SLU helps students transition to college.
Feel free to bring your laptop if you have one. We’ll have technical staff on hand to help configure your device to the University wireless and residential hall networks before the first week of school. Or you can have this done upon your return in August.
