Become a Patient

The Center for Advanced Dental Education treats thousands of patients each year through our patient practice, Dental Specialties of Saint Louis University.

Providing services for both adults and children, Dental Specialties offers advanced care at a lower cost than traditional practices. Services include orthodontics (braces), endodontics (root canals), periodontics (gum disease and implants) and pediatric dentistry (children and special needs). General dentistry services are offered only in the pediatric dentistry program.

To schedule an appointment, call 314-977-8363. Our office staff are available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Because we are a teaching facility, evening and Saturday hours are not available. Hours vary depending upon the services required and students' class schedules.

Orthodontic care

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child be screened by an orthodontist by the age of seven. Early intervention results in less costly and less comprehensive treatment requirements.

CADE offers free screenings during which we can evaluate if you or your child require orthodontic treatment and advise on any treatment. The visit includes a cursory examination of the teeth, jaws and mouth.

Before scheduling a screening appointment, complete and submit the Orthodontic Patient Registration and Health History form. Make sure to include all of your orthodontic insurance information.  We will call you within one week of receiving the form to schedule your appointment. You can also contact us at  314-977-8363 or email general questions to  orthodontics@slu.edu .

Once your appointment is scheduled, we require you to complete the following consent forms:

Insurance coverage and financial options will be discussed with you at the screening. If the appointment is for a patient under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present.

If you will be sending a non-parent or non-legal guardian with your child, complete and sign the Permission for Verbal/Written Communications form and ensure it is brought to the appointment.

Endodontic/periodontic care

A referral from a physician or dentist is generally required for endodontic and periodontic services. This can be arranged by phone.

To schedule an endodontic or periodontic appointment, call 314-977-8381 or email us at endoperio@slu.edu.

Treatment is provided by residents who are already accomplished dentists undergoing advanced studies to become specialists in orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, or pediatric dentistry.

All work is supervised by our outstanding clinical faculty.
