Children's Mercy Hospital Bioethics Center Hires Health Care Ethics PhD Student, Bradley Thornock

Bradley Thornock, MPH, PhD(c) was hired as the Pediatric Ethics and Genomics fellow at Children's Mercy Hospital's Bioethics Center. Children's Mercy is one of four sites selected by NHGRI to examine the use of whole genome and whole exome sequencing for newborns in the NICU. CMH will be examining the benefits and risks of using rapid genomic sequencing (under 50 hours) for diagnostic purposes.

Thornock will be the first fellow for this project and plans to review and revamp incidental finding polices and procedures. He also intends to look at doctor and patient perspectives, the dynamics of the doctor-patient relationship, and to research genomic sequencing changes the clinical care of newborns in the NICU.
