Curriculum Requirements for a Minor in Health Care Ethics:

Total credit hours: 15
Pre-requisites: none
Transfer credits: Case-by-case basis
Grade requirements: C (2.0) or higher in all courses

Required Course:

Students must take ONE of the following:

HCE 2010: Foundations in Clinical Health Care Ethics
HCE 3020/THEO 3930 Foundations in Catholic Health Care Ethics (counts as either required foundations course or elective course)

Elective Courses:

Students may complete up to 12 credit hours from the following: Students pursuing the minor must take 201 prior to or concurrent with taking any 400-level electives. Three of the five courses for the minor must be 300 or 400 level courses (i.e. only two 200-level courses will count).

HCE 3010: Ethical Issues in Clinical Medicine
HCE 3030: Disability Studies: Medicine, Ethics, and Policy
HCE 3200: Freaks and the Medical Body
HCE 3300: Cross-Cultural Perspectives in Bioethics Through Film (Study abroad in Madrid, Spain)
HCE 4200: Warriors and Medics
HCE 4210: Controversies in the Ethics of Death & Dying
HCE 4220: Controversies in Reproductive and Pediatric Ethics
HCE 4240: Ethics and Geriatric Care (Service-learning internship)
HCE 4250: Law and Bioethics
HCE 4260: From Tuskegee to Henrietta Lacks: Race & Research Ethics
HCE 4270: Controversies in Organ Procurement & Transplantation
HCE 4500: Ethics in Nursing and Health Care (for senior nursing students only)

Outside the Center:

Students may count 3 credit hours (or 1 course) from outside the HCE from the following list:
