SLU’s Fresh Gatherings Café + Farm Opens a Second Location

Saint Louis University’s (SLU) Fresh Gatherings Café + Farm opened a second location in the Education Union on the university’s South Campus on Thursday, January 20 with a grand opening celebration to follow on Monday, January 31. The Education Union location will operate Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM and offer the classic Fresh Gatherings grab-and-go sandwiches, salads and snacks as well as a smoothie bar. The café’s popular first location, operated by Nutrition and Dietetics department, is located in the Allied Health Professions Building on SLU’s South Campus. The Allied Health Professions Building location will continue to operate from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, serving hot breakfast, made-to-order lunch specials, full-service coffee bar and grab-and-go items.

In January 2022, Fresh Gatherings Cafe + Farm opened a second location in the Education Union on SLU's South Campus.

The second Fresh Gatherings Café + Farm location was designed to increase dining options for the community and decrease the length of lines at the original Fresh Gatherings Café and other South Campus dining options. SLU Nutrition and Dietetics Assistant Professor and Chef Dan Brewer, MS, RDN, discussed opening the café’s second location.

“We are excited to expand into the Education Union because it will allow us to serve our community in new and exciting ways and create new capacity in our efforts to integrate our urban farm as well as our local farmers and vendors,” Brewer said. “Fresh Gatherings Café and Farm has evolved into a hub and a center point for community connectivity – we know that food’s ability to bring people together is unparalleled and we want to continue serving in this way.”

SLU Nutrition and Dietetics Interim Chairperson Anthony Breitbach, Ph.D., ATC, FASAHP, FNAP, explained some of the impact an additional Fresh Gatherings Café + Farm can have on the SLU community.

“This initiative will make it easier for students, faculty, staff and other guests on the South Campus to experience Fresh Gatherings’ healthy and delicious menu,” Dr. Breitbach said. “We believe that this benefit goes far beyond the food, creating a chance to build community by enjoying meals together in a revitalized space.”

Each Fresh Gatherings Café + Farm location accepts multiple forms of payment. The Allied Health Professions Building location accepts meal swipe (from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM), Billiken Bucks, flex, cash and credit card while the Education Union location accepts Billiken Bucks, flex, cash and card.
