Mcgeehon was thrilled to be named a recipient of the BJH Laboratory scholarship and to be able to have a glimpse of her life after graduation.

“I was so excited to find out that I was the recipient of the scholarship. It was a big relief to hear that I had been chosen; I had been so anxious waiting to hear about the results,” Mcgeehon said. “My whole family is very proud of me and I am looking forward to the next chapter of my career when I graduate.”

Mcgeehon went on to explain why the idea of working for BJH Laboratories after graduating was so exciting to her.

“During my freshman year at SLU, I did a tour of the laboratories at BJH and I was amazed. They have so much technology and equipment that not a lot of other laboratories have,” Mcgeehon said. “I have lived in St. Louis my whole life, so I have heard only good things about BJH and how it is a great place to be. Initially, my post-graduation plans had not involved working in a hospital setting, but once I saw this opportunity, I knew it was something that I should go for.”

SLU MLS Program Director Amanda Reed, MAE, MLS(ASCP)CM, was very proud of Mcgeehon for being the first SLU student to be awarded this scholarship.

“Mady is an excellent student and a joy to have in class. I am extremely proud of this accomplishment, and I know that she will be a great addition to the laboratory team at BJH,” Reed said. “I feel confident knowing that Mady will be one of the many medical laboratory professionals at BJH performing the tests that physicians rely on to diagnose, monitor and treat disease.”

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the largest hospital in Missouri and the largest private employer in the St. Louis region with a medical staff of over 1,800 members. BJH is a member of BJC HealthCare, which is one of the nation’s largest healthcare organizations.
