SLU PA Clinical Preceptor Jim Nanney, PA-C, earned the DCHS Excellence in Clinical Education Award.

Nanney felt honored and humbled to receive the award. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be a clinical educator because it allows him to make a difference in his profession.

“I think what inspires me to be a clinical educator is the opportunity to give back to the SLU PA program which has given me so much,” Nanney said. “It gives me the chance to keep alive the memory of some of the doctors – who have since passed on – who I have worked with over my career who imparted so much to me.”

Nanney went on to discuss how incredibly impressed he is by the SLU PA students he works with year after year.

“Meeting the new students is always fun and I’m amazed at the level of competence these students already have,” Nanney said. “My patients are happily accepting of meeting the new students and I’m often asked by patients when the next student will be starting.”

SLU PA Program Director Genevieve Delrosario, MHS, PA-C, described how pleased the entire program was for Nanney to be recognized with this award.

“The entire faculty was so excited and proud that Jim won the award for clinical education. He has done so much for the program and for our students for well over a decade,” Delrosario said. “Students learn about both the science and the art of practicing medicine in a small community, and they have a great time doing it. We cannot imagine anyone more deserving of this award.”

Nanney is the PA for SIHF Healthcare in Bunker Hill, IL where he provides family medicine services. Operating a network of 30 health centers across the state of Illinois, SIHF is one of the largest federally qualified health center networks in the country. Nanney has been a clinical educator for SLU PA students for over 12 years.
