Associate Professor; Administrator of Student Development
Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy

Education

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Curriculum and Instruction), Saint Louis University
  • Master of Business Administration, Maryville University
  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, University of Missouri-Columbia

Research Interests

  • Ms. Matlock's teaching philosophy integrates social constructionism, preferentially the educational theory of situated learning. Situated learning is distinctive due to the authentic context in which the experience occurs: learning occurs as students work on genuine tasks that reflect the real world. Dr. Matlock works from this platform as she researches student perspectives of professional behavior and attitude development. By incorporating the findings, the teaching and learning of the behaviors and attitudes held in highest esteem to the profession readies students for competent practice as an occupational therapist. Inclusive teaching/learning practices and student health self-advocacy are additional areas of inquiry.
