SLU DCHS Associate Dean Accepts Position of Dean at New University
Saint Louis University (SLU) Doisy College of Health Sciences (DCHS) Associate Dean for Research Jesús García-Martínez, MD, Ph.D., recently accepted the position of Dean of the Vera Z. Dwyer College of Health Sciences at Indiana University – South Bend. Dr. García-Martínez served as the DCHS Associate Dean for Research for six years – arriving at SLU in 2016.
Dr. García-Martínez was instrumental in leading various DCHS initiatives related to advancing the college’s research culture and approached work with an inclusive approach. Additionally, he led important progress related to the Integrated and Applied Sciences Ph.D. program and the Summer Healthcare Exploration Camp for high school students.
Dr. García-Martínez explained how DCHS, both professionally and personally, was an incredibly rewarding and satisfying place to work.
“Working at SLU was fulfilling on many levels. The faculty and staff at DCHS are hardworking individuals who are dedicated to education, research and service,” Dr. García-Martínez said. “On a personal level, the connections I built with many of the faculty and staff contributed to making it a great place to work. I will always remember my time at SLU fondly.”
DCHS Dean Bernard Rousseau, Ph.D., MMHC, FASHA, was appreciative of Dr. García-Martínez’s service to the college expressed confidence in his future endeavors.

Dwyer College of Health Sciences excel under his leadership.”
The Associate Dean for Research is a critical position for investigators within DCHS and for college strategic directions. As such, a timely national search will be conducted for the next DCHS Associate Dean for Research.
