About the Medical Center Library

The Saint Louis University Medical Center Library is located on the second floor of the Margaret McCormick Doisy Learning Resources Center on SLU's South Campus. Our librarians and staff provide support for the schools of medicine, nursing, and public health; the Center for Advanced Dental Education; and other health sciences programs, as well as SSM Health St. Louis.

The library is connected to the School of Medicine complex via the second floor of the Caroline Building, and the School of Nursing is close by, across Caroline Mall.

You'll find Medical Center Library personnel spread across the access and delivery services, reference, and interlibrary loan departments. We work closely with each other and our colleagues at the Pius XII Memorial Library to deliver materials, provide research support and class instruction, and improve resources and services across the University's libraries.

Since 2022, the library has provided space for the School of Medicine's 360 Classroom, also known as the Lo Family Team Learning Center.

History

The Learning Resources Center opened in 1977 and was named after Margaret Doisy, wife of Nobel Prize winner and SLU faculty member Edward A. Doisy.

A library has been a part of SLU's medical education facilities at the corner of Grand Boulevard and Caroline Street (now Caroline Mall) since the university acquired the Marion-Sims-Beaumont College of Medicine in 1903. The original Marion-Sims-Beaumont building, built in 1890, was replaced by a larger facility at the same location in 1927. The library was located in this new building, now called Schwitalla Hall, for 50 more years. In 1977, the library moved into its current home on the second floor of the LRC.
