The Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) Board of Directors approved the reaccreditation of Saint Louis University’s Master of Health Administration program for an eight-year term.

“I am incredibly proud that our 19th-ranked Master of Health Administration program has been granted full accreditation from CAHME. This reflects the dedication of our faculty, the strength of our curriculum, and the achievements of our students and alumni. It reaffirms our commitment to developing mission-driven leaders who will enact meaningful, lasting change in healthcare,” SLU's College for Public Health and Social Justice Dean Leslie McClure, Ph.D., said.

The mission of the SLU M.H.A. program is to form motivated, early careerists into resilient and ethical leaders who are highly competent to engage in interdisciplinary practice across health care and related industries. The program does this by providing competency-based education and integrative training in a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

“Earning a full eight-year reaccreditation from CAHME is a tremendous achievement that reflects the dedication and excellence of our entire community. Our faculty, students, staff, and alumni made this possible through their unwavering commitment to high-quality education, service, and leadership in health management,” said Kimberly R. Enard, Ph.D., the Department of Health Management and Policy chair and the James R. Kimmey Endowed Chair in Public Health.

The program’s spirit of innovation began in 1947, when John J. Flanagan, S.J., then Catholic Health Association executive director, saw a need to train people to manage a quickly-expanding network of hospitals in the years following World War II. CHA and SLU collaborated to build the original academic program, which was also one of the first programs in the nation to develop competency-based education. This kind of training is now the standard for accredited programs.

“CAHME's mission is to advance the quality of health care management education. CAHME-accredited programs have successfully navigated a complex and careful accreditation process managed by experts in the study and practice of healthcare management,” said Al Faber, interim president and CEO of CAHME. “The program meets the rigorous standards set by leading academicians and practitioners who are experts in their fields.”

About CAHME

Since 1968, the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) has served the public interest by advancing the quality of health care management education globally. CAHME accredits 165 academic programs in management, which has broadly been defined to include health care quality and safety, and population health.

CAHME works with leading academic programs and numerous health care practitioners to ensure that graduates entering the health care field have undergone an educational process meeting rigorous, measurable standards for effectiveness. The result is a formal academic education focusing on key competencies, plus practical experiences. This enables new graduates to quickly add value to an organization and grow into future leaders. CAHME is the only organization recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation to grant accreditation to individual academic programs offering a graduate degree in health care management.
