Public Health/Social Work

Saint Louis University’s College for Public Health and Social Justice allows students to pursue both Master of Public Health and Master of Social Work degrees concurrently, saving time and tuition dollars by counting required courses for one degree as meeting elective course requirements in the other.

About the Program

In today's health care environment, services are increasingly community-based, with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. SLU’s dual M.P.H./M.S.W. can prepare you to specialize in the social service aspects of public health.

Curriculum and Program Details

Students in this graduate program complete requirements for both the clinical social work and the public health degree. In addition to shared elective courses, the M.S.W. clinical practical experiences also satisfy the M.P.H. practice experience requirement, and the M.P.H. health policy course satisfies the requirements of the M.S.W. policy practice course. You must set up all field experiences as social work practicum experiences with the SLU M.S.W. field education office to receive M.S.W. practicum credit.

Both degrees can be completed in three years with a minimum total of 78 credit hours.

Dual-degree students in this program are required to meet in person with their social work faculty mentor twice a year for academic advising and course planning. You will also meet with your faculty mentor in public health as often as necessary to ensure that you are meeting the requirements of that degree program.

The School of Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
