International Advanced Orthodontic Fellowship

Program Structure and Duration
To accommodate a diverse range of participants, the program offers multiple duration options:
- 12-Month Fellowship (Two Semesters) – Intensive full-year program for in-depth learning and research engagement.
- Six-Month Fellowship (One Semester) – A concentrated program covering essential clinical and academic components.
- One-Month Fellowship (Short-Term Intensive Program) – A condensed option for experienced orthodontists seeking focused exposure in a limited time frame.
Instruction takes place at SLU's Center for Advanced Dental Education Department of Orthodontics, 3320 Rutger Street, St. Louis, Missouri, 63104 USA.
Notes on Program Start Dates, Accreditation and Visa
Fellows are encouraged to begin their program in January or July, with flexible start dates available to accommodate individual circumstances and departmental scheduling.
This program is not a CODA-accredited orthodontic residency program in the United States. Therefore, completion of this fellowship does not qualify participants for U.S. dental licensure.
Upon acceptance and registration, participants will receive an official enrollment letter from Saint Louis University. However, visa approval is not guaranteed and depends on each individual’s immigration status and the decision of the U.S. consulate. Obtaining a visa is solely the responsibility of the applicant.
Tuition and Expenses
The tuition fees for the program are structured as follows:
- 12-Month Program: $34,000
- Six-Month Program: $20,000
- One-Month Intensive Program: $5,000
Fellows are responsible for personal expenses, including housing, transportation, meals, and other living costs. Assistance in securing accommodations can be provided upon request.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Completion of a non-U.S. or non-Canadian orthodontic residency program of at least two years, or current enrollment in a non-U.S. or non-Canadian orthodontic residency program of at least two years at the post-graduate level.
- All applicants must demonstrate a commitment to academic and clinical excellence.
Fellowship Curriculum and Responsibilities
Clinical Exposure
Fellows will participate in:
- Observation of patient care in the graduate orthodontic clinic.
- Observation of new patient screening processes.
- Attendance and active participation in weekly case conferences.
- Review of patient cases to identify valuable instructional examples.
Didactic Education
Fellows will join structured didactic courses alongside orthodontic residents.
Presentation requirements:
- 12-Month Fellowship: Four one-hour lectures
- Six-Month Fellowship: Two one-hour lectures
- One-Month Fellowship: One lecture (optional but encouraged)
Research Engagement
Fellows will conduct an independent research project under faculty guidance. They may contribute to ongoing departmental research and publications. Participation in conferences and publication submissions is encouraged.
Enrollment Capacity
To maintain an exceptional educational experience, enrollment is typically limited to two fellows per year for the six- and 12-month programs; however, additional spots may be considered under special circumstances, depending on faculty availability and departmental capacity. The 1-Month Intensive Fellowship will have limited availability based on faculty schedules, with enrollment decisions made on a case-by-case basis.

- Applicants who are currently enrolled in an orthodontic residency program must submit an official letter of enrollment verification signed by their program director or department chair. This letter should confirm the applicant’s current academic status and anticipated graduation date.
- Two letters of recommendation (from faculty or professionals in orthodontics)
- Statement of clinical interests, proposed lecture topics, and a research project proposal
