The Reinert Center is dedicated to creating opportunities to enhance pedagogical knowledge in flexible and engaging ways. Online seminars offer a way to create meaningful learning experiences through virtual interactions, rather than face-to-face workshops. Some seminars are open access and self-guided, while others are restricted to those pursuing a Certificate in University Teaching Skills (CUTS).
Below is a list of our current online seminars. Please check back as we continue to develop more resources.
The purpose of this online seminar is to help participants understand and articulate their philosophy of teaching Participants will engage in reflective activities to uncover their own assumptions and values about teaching and learning in online discussion and peer review with other Certificate participants. Upon completion of the seminar, participants will have a preliminary draft of their teaching philosophy statement, along with feedback that can guide future revisions. A revised version of the teaching philosophy statement is a required element of the CUTS Teaching Portfolio.
Duration: This is a two-week, asynchronous online seminar, facilitated by Center staff.
Pre-requisites: None. (Registrants must be enrolled in CUTS.)

The purpose of this seminar is to introduce some basic principles of course design and to prepare participants to develop their own course materials. Participants will gain different perspectives on writing learning outcomes, and aligning activities and assessments to course goals. Upon completion of the seminar, participants will have preliminary drafts of course materials, along with feedback that can guide future revisions. Revised course materials will be required for the CUTS Teaching Portfolio.

The purpose of this seminar is to explore why teachers should use technology in their classes and how to make decisions about which technologies are appropriate for particular learning goals. Participants will gain different perspectives on a wide range of technology uses and will develop a plan for integrating one new technology into their own teaching and/or course design. Upon completion of the seminar, participants will have preliminary drafts of course materials showing the integration of technology, along with feedback that can guide future revisions. Revised materials will be required for the CUTS Teaching Portfolio.
