SLU-Madrid Announces Bachelor Program in Philosophy

SLU-Madrid's Department of Humanities now offers the B.A. in Philosophy at the Madrid Campus. This program requires one semester of study on the St. Louis campus, like the B.A. in History.

The Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, as the program director of the Department of Humanities, John Welch, Ph.D., states, "is the same program that SLU has offered for years, which fosters critical, creative thinking about life's big questions. But it is now possible to complete the program [in Madrid] with just one semester in St. Louis." Philosophy students are able to study the majority of their university degree in the dynamic, international environment of Madrid Campus, while still having the valuable experience of learning from American philosophers at the St. Louis campus.

Student in class

The addition of the philosophy major in Madrid speaks to the increasing academic diversity offered at SLU-Madrid. Students can now complete 14 different bachelor’s degree programs in Madrid (two of which require one semester of study in St. Louis).

Isabella, a student from Kentucky who is currently enrolled in the philosophy major, commented that it is "wonderful to be able to complete the major [she] wanted in the attractive educational environment of the Madrid Campus." She also noted that the philosophy program truly stands out in offering close contact with faculty, as made possible by the size of the campus in Madrid.
