Visiting Students

Saint Louis University welcomes students who wish to enrich their university experience by spending a summer, semester or a year in the Spanish capital. If you enjoy interacting with an internationally diverse community, SLU-Madrid is the right place for you.

We offer nearly 200 accredited courses taught in English every semester, including those that fulfill requirements for degrees in business, engineering and the health sciences. And for students who wish to immerse themselves in Spanish culture and language, we offer language courses of all levels and courses  that fulfill traditional U.S. liberal arts requirements in Spanish.

Applying from a college or university in the United States

Admission to SLU-Madrid is based on a review of the following items:

Online application

You can apply through our free online application. Current Saint Louis University students from the St. Louis campus who want to study abroad in Madrid must speak with the Office of International Services and apply through the SLU study abroad program portal.

Some U.S. universities have partnership agreements with SLU-Madrid. Check with the Study Abroad office at your university before applying or email the coordinator of visiting groups in the Office of Admissions at studyabroad-madrid@slu.edu.

Deadlines for applicants who require a Spanish student visa:

  • Fall: May 31
  • Spring: Oct. 15
  • Summer 1: March 15
  • Summer 2: April 15

Deadlines for applicants who don’t require a Spanish student visa:

  • Fall: Aug. 1
  • Spring: Dec. 15
  • Summer I: April 30
  • Summer II: May 31

Personal essay

As part of the online application, you will be asked to write a 500-word essay. The topic is indicated on the online application. Your essay can be uploaded to the application or sent by email to studyabroad-madrid@slu.edu.

Official transcripts from home university or college

Official college transcripts can be sent by email to studyabroad-madrid@slu.edu or by regular mail to the St. Louis campus:

Admission to SLU-Madrid is based on a review of the following items:

You can apply through our free online application. The application deadlines are for the submission of the online application only. Admission documents can be sent in after these deadlines. For deadline extension requests, contact the Office of Admissions at admissions-madrid@slu.edu.

Application Review

Your application will be considered complete when the online application and all other required or optional documents have been submitted. The Office of Admissions will review your completed application and will notify you about your admission by email within seven to 10 days.
