Your Journey to SLU-Madrid as a Degree-Seeking Student

No matter where you are in the admissions process, we want to be sure you're on the right track.

Below is the schedule for what's happening in the months leading up to your enrollment at SLU-Madrid. You can find relevant dates for deadlines, notification periods and Madrid Campus closures. Don't forget to reference previous months to ensure you haven't missed any important steps.

Fall 2021 applicants 
September
  • Application opens for fall
October
  • Apply for FAFSA (U.S. citizens and permanent residents only) using SLU's FAFSA code of  002506  
November
  • Application review begins - admission decisions sent on a rolling basis
December
  • December 1: Priority deadline for FAFSA 
  • Christmas week: Madrid Campus closed  
January
  • First week of January: Madrid Campus closed; reopens on Jan. 11
February
  • February 1: SLU's priority deadline for FAFSA  
  • February 6: Attend Virtual Open Campus in English or in Spanish 
  • Research the Spanish student visa process at your nearest consulate and get an appointment (for June or early July)  
March
  • March 1: Director's Scholarship application deadline 
  • Financial aid packages begin to load into MySLU (U.S. citizens and residents only)  
  • March 29-April 2 (Easter Week): Madrid Campus closed   
April
  • April 10: Attend Virtual Open Campus in English or in Spanish 
  • Begin collecting visa documentation and book a visa appointment for June or early July (if your consulate has an appointment stipulation) 
  • Consider your housing options and make necessary plans or confirmations (to access the SLU-Madrid host family database, you must pay the confirmation fee first)  
May
  • May 1: Accept our offer of admission by paying your confirmation fee. After May 1, confirmation is on a rolling basis  
  • May 3 (Local holiday): Madrid Campus closed  
  • May 31: Application deadline for students who need a student visa for Spain  
June
  • Attend your visa appointment  
  • Send final transcripts and official test scores  
  • Class registration begins for first-year and transfer students  
  • Math and English placement tests (if necessary, confirmed students only)
July
  • July 1: Priority deadline to accept financial aid via MySLU (non-merit scholarships only)  
  • Attend your visa appointment (early July)  
  • Fill out the Arrival Form when you have your travel plans  
  • Send final transcripts and official test scores  
  • Class registration continues for first-year and transfer students  
  • Math and English placement tests (if necessary, confirmed students only)
August
  • August 1: Application deadline for European Union passport holders 
  • Send final transcripts and official test scores  
  • August 23-25: Fall 2021 online pre-departure sessions for new students and families 
  • August 29: Fall 2021 First year and transfer arrival date and housing move-in  
  • August 30-31: Fall 2021 Welcome Days for first-year and transfer students
  • August 31: Fall 2021 Convocation Ceremony 
  • September 1: First day of class  
Spring 2022 applicants 
January 
  • Application opens for spring 
  • Application review begins - admission decisions sent on a rolling basis 
  • Apply for FAFSA (U.S. citizens and permanent residents) using SLU's FAFSA code of 002506 
February 
  • February 1: SLU's priority deadline for FAFSA

  • SLU-sponsored housing assignments take place 
November 
  • November 1 (National holiday): Madrid Campus closed
  • November 9 (Local holiday): Madrid Campus closed
  • Attend your visa appointment (early November) 
  • Fill out the Arrival Form when you have your travel plans 
  • Send final transcripts and official test scores 
  • Class registration begins for first-year and transfer students
  • Math and English placement tests (if necessary, confirmed students only)
  • SLU-sponsored housing assignments begin 
December 
  • December 1: Spring 2022 application deadline for European Union passport holders 
  • December 8 (National holiday): Madrid Campus closed
  • Fill out the Arrival Form when you have your travel plans 
  • Send final transcripts and official test scores 
  • Class registration continues for first-year and transfer students
  • Math and English placement tests (if necessary, confirmed students only), confirmed students only) 
  • SLU-sponsored housing assignments continue
  • Christmas week: Madrid Campus closed 
January 
  • January 11: Spring 2022 First year and transfer arrival date and housing move-in 
  • January 12: Spring 2022 Welcome Days for new and study abroad students
  • January 13: First day of class  

Ready to Apply? 

The first step to becoming a SLU-Madrid student is submitting an application for admission. We're on the Common App, or you can submit an application via SLU's online portal.

SLU-Madrid is proud to be SAT/ACT test optional. If you choose not to send SAT/ACT scores, you will not be disadvantaged in any way in the admission process.
