Summer in Spain: Registration Opens February 20

SLU-Madrid has increased the number of courses offered this summer to over 60 – along with internships, volunteer activities, programs for graduate students, and even a science camp for high school students.

Summer in Spain

Offering a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses ranging from oceanography to international marketing (and, of course, Spanish),  SLU-Madrid's Summer in Spain program gives university students from around the world an opportunity to get ahead in their studies and to discover Madrid and Spain. “We’ve designed our summer offerings,” said SLU-Madrid Academic Dean and Director Paul Vita, “specifically to serve the needs of our students, especially those who may not have the opportunity to study abroad during the academic year.”

Among the courses available are those one would expect in a study abroad program in Spain: Spanish language, history and culture classes, including dance (flamenco). In addition, SLU-Madrid offers a full range of liberal arts courses that fulfill undergraduate core requirements across SLU’s colleges and schools, from accounting to theology.

SLU’s position as an American university in Spain also opens the University's innovative curriculum to students residing in Europe. New in 2019 are courses introducing cybersecurity, blockchain technology and applied behavioral analysis. A new professional shadowing program is also available for pre-med students, offering future physicians the opportunity to gain an understanding of Spain’s health care system firsthand.

Summer experiences in Spain are not limited to undergraduate students. For nearly 30 years, SLU-Madrid has received international recognition for its Master of Arts in Spanish program. This program, offered in June and July, is designed around the busy schedules of Spanish secondary school teachers and allows them to earn their masters over the course of four summers, while enriching their knowledge of Spanish language and culture through living in Spain. SLU-Madrid also is home to international programs developed by SLU’s School of Law and the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business.

The Summer in Spain program runs from May 20 to June 20, 2019. The Intensive Spanish Summer Session, which features SLU-Madrid’s acclaimed master's in Spanish program, runs from June 24 to July 25.
