SLU-Madrid is pleased to welcome students to campus for a fully in-person experience once again in spring 2022. After successfully returning to the classroom during fall 2021, SLU-Madrid will continue to offer students a rigorous American education and transformative international experience based in Madrid.

SLU-Madrid’s health and safety protocols have been made in accordance with government regulations and our commitment to keeping the campus community safe. SLU-Madrid continues to practice strict social distancing in classrooms and require mask use on campus. (Find detailed information about our protocols.)

Arrival Information and Welcome Sessions

The spring 2022 welcome program has been designed to help new degree-seeking and study abroad students meet one another, learn about campus resources, and acclimate to life as "Billikeños," an affectionate term for SLU-Madrid students.

First-Year and Transfer Students

SLU-Madrid's Office of Student Life and the Office of Admissions are teaming up to offer a series of online pre-departure orientation sessions. These sessions are specifically designed to address concerns and offer information to new first-year and transfer students.

Fall Semester Begins

At the beginning of each semester, SLU-Madrid buzzes with activity as students meet the faculty and settle into their routines.

Classes begin on Thursday, Jan. 13. Academic advisors and faculty will be available to help students finalize their course schedules. Featured courses this semester include the CiTESOL certification, an 8-credit hour certification course which provides students with a credential to teach English to speakers of other languages around the world. Among other exciting course offerings, the Spanish Department is offering a wide range of upper-level literature courses to support both students majoring in Spanish, visiting students, and master's students, from Don Quixote to Deciphering Latin American Societies and Cultures. We are also pleased to offer expanded course offerings in computer science and marketing in support of these two new majors, including courses like Artificial Intelligence and Brand Management.

Outside the classroom, both new and returning students can learn about Spain's history and culture through campus-sponsored excursions to Toledo, the Monasterio de Piedra, Segovia and Salamanca (sign up and pay in the Finance Office). Students will be able to find out about campus clubs, activities, service opportunities, sports and more at the Activities Fair on Monday, Jan. 17, 3:30-6:30 p.m.

This spring's Theatre Workshop production will be Carlo Goldoni's classic comedy, "The Servant of Two Masters." Set in 18th century Venice and rooted in the conventions of traditional commedia dell'arte, the play is full of slamming doors, mistaken identity, thwarted lovers, and appalling table service. We plan to perform the play with Venetian masks designed and built for the actors by our Sculpture I class. Actor auditions and crew sign-up will be held Monday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in San Ignacio Hall, Room E. No experience is required. If you have questions, contact Cary Barney (cary.barney@slu.edu).

Information about the latest events and activities throughout the semester is available in the weekly Campus News email updates and the Upcoming Events Calendar
